Arguing

When I was young, I enjoyed arguing and debating about the meaning of particular scriptures, but I gradually came to realise that it was fruitless effort. People are not persuaded, and the arguments harden disagreements into hostility, which is not helpful to the body of Jesus.

If people are asking questions about my teaching with a genuine desire to increase their understanding of what I am trying to say, I am quite happy to endeavour to answer them. But if people are just trying to prove me wrong, I mostly don’t respond because it does not achieve anything.
