Kingdom and Church

Howard Snyder said,

Kingdom people seek first the Kingdom of God and its justice; church people often put church work above concerns of justice, mercy, and truth. Church people think about how to get people into the church; Kingdom people think about how to get the church into the world. Church people worry that the world might change the church. Kingdom people work to see the church change the world.

I agree with your basic breakdown. I suppose the challenge rests with getting more of the church into a kingdom mindset. I have found this hard to do. I am also a pastor, and I have seen the church suffer from a lot of club member mentality. You might enjoy Reggie McNeal's new book, The Present Future, which goes into this topic.

I wonder if you would email me in return. I'm considering returning to the marketplace and pursuing a missional house church model ministry. This is something I have alrady begun, but I have not yet tried to replicate my house church within my neighborhood.

I'd enjoy hearing more about your journey, since it appears from your website that you have taken this road as well.. Am I correct?

Sincerely,

M
