European Politics

Alistair Crooke explains the reason for the political shift in recent European parliament elections.

The European MEP election outcome may come to be viewed as the ‘first swallow’ signalling a substantive change in the weather...

Many in the West now see only too clearly that the western ruling structure is no liberal project per se, but rather is an avowedly illiberal mechanical ‘control system’ (managerial technocracy) – that fraudulently poses as liberalism.

Clearly many in Europe are alienated from the Establishment. The causes may be multiple – Ukraine, immigration or falling living standards – yet all Europeans are versed in the narrative that history has bent to the long arc of liberalism (in the post-Cold War period).

Yet that has proved illusory. The reality has been control, surveillance, censorship, technocracy, lockdowns and climate emergency. Illiberalism, even quasi totalitarianism, in short.

He traces this back to when Zbig Brzezinski (who was to become National Security Adviser to President Carter) published a 1970 book entitled: Between Two Ages: America’s Role in the Technetronic Era. In it, Brzezinski argued:
“The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society…dominated by an élite, unrestrained by traditional values…[and practicing] continuous surveillance over every citizen … [together with] manipulation of the behaviour and intellectual functioning of all people … [would become the new norm].”

Elsewhere he argued that “the nation-state as a fundamental unit of man’s organised life has ceased to be the principal creative force: International banks and multinational corporations are acting and planning in terms that are far in advance of the political concepts of the nation-state”. (i.e. Business cosmopolitanism as the future.)

Spiritual Shift (5) Big Move

When the Roman Empire collapsed, the principality and powers that had controlled it lost their place and were dispersed throughout Europe. Here is what has probably happened. Some of the controlling spirits continued to exercise power through the Catholic Church, emerging in its dark periods through the inquisition and various political machinations. The principality rose again in the Holy Roman Empire based on Germany. Many of them would have been at work a thousand years later when Hitler tried to establish an empire in Europe.

Some of these spirits travelled to America with migrants escaping from the violence and poverty of Europe to the land of freedom. This land was only sparsely populated, so it had been largely ignored by the spiritual forces of evil. They always go where the people go. Despite wanting to make a new start, many of European migrants unwittingly took violent warring spirits with them to their new land.

The United States invaded Europe in 1917 and 1944. It won both of these wars, but as usually happens, it lost the spiritual wars. The victorious soldiers took thousands of warning violent spirits back to America with them as victor’s spoils. In 1917, they were divided, and some remained in Europe to have another go through Hitler. In 1945, most left Europe for America, switching to the new winner.

This explains the rapid change in Europe. After centuries of fighting, with some wars lasting for decades and millions of people killed. the Europeans suddenly lost interest in war. Armies have shrunk and spending on the military has declined rapidly. The reason for this change is that the violent warning principality and the spirits he controlled have joined their colleagues in the United. States.

The United States has always had a strong history of faith in Jesus, so the spiritual forces of wickedness had been forced underground and were biding their time. They have burst out from time to time in during wars and massacres, but they never gained control at the highest level. While some presidential candidates have been strongly influenced by the violent warring spirit, it has never gained supremacy in the United States, because there have always been more peaceful men standing against them.

Violent warring spirits have been active in a America for a long time. Events have now given them a greater ascendancy. A warring violent spirit that builds an empire through military force and economic domination is becoming the principality that controls America.

The Euro

Many economic commentators are already writing the obituary of the Euro. Some suggest that a currency union cannot survive without political union. This is not correct. What happens in a currency union is that individual governments lose the power to deflate their currency. They can no longer borrow and spend, and then inflate away the debt (California cannot do this either).

Politicians hate losing this power, because they can no longer buy votes without having to pay the price. Most citizens should be glad that their politicians have lost this power. Image the damage that Arnie could terminate, if California could inflate away its debt.

The real problem in Europe is that credit rating agencies and banks foolishly assessed the risk of default as being the same for all members of the European Union. German and Greek bonds were priced the same. This allowed the poorer countries of Europe to borrow at very low interest rates and spend like there is no tomorrow. It is now clear that the risk of lending to Greece and Spain is far greater than lending to Germany, so bond yields have adjusted to reflect the difference.

This coming home of the chickens leaves the so-called PIIGS in a difficult situation. They can no longer inflate their way out of trouble and they can no longer borrow freely at low cost. However, leaving the Euro is not really an option. They would face the costs of establishing a new currency, and will not be able borrow at all. The populations of parts of Europe will face a few hard years and the politicians will not be able to buy their votes.

The bad risk assessments have left the European banks with a serious problem. They have only just swallowed the American subprime debt and now they have to deal with the falling value of European sovereign debt. However, the ECB is coming to the party, and is buying up some to the poorer quality debt. They will not allow the European banks to follow. Part of Europe may experience hard times, but the Euro will not fail.

The other consequence of the economic crisis is that political union is finally off the agenda. The chances of the Germans and Greeks, or the Dutch and the Spanish giving their political independence to each other has dropped to zero.

This creates a problem for the end-times prophets who have backed an eschatology based round a United States of Europe. They will have to go back to the scriptures and re-write their charts. Anyway, who needs a United States of Europe when we have a United States of America trying to manage the world.
