Kingdom of God (4) - Holy Spirit Kingdom
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. He is exercises all the awesome power of God, so we can expect him to be successful in all he does. God has given the Holy Spirit the task of establishing the Kingdom (through the church). Since he has infinite power, we should expect him to bring the Kingdom of God to victory.
God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven when people obey the Holy Spirit. That simple idea is the key to the coming of the Kingdom. The Holy Spirit is modest, so he does not boast in the scriptures about what he will do. Christians who know him should read between the lines and understand the significance of his role in bring the Kingdom.
When Jesus was on earth, he did what he saw his Father doing.
Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does (John 5:19).The Holy Spirit is the same. He does what he sees the Father doing. He says what he hears Jesus saying.
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears…. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you (John 16:13-15).The Holy Spirit hears what Jesus is saying and reveals it to his people. When they obey his voice, they do Jesus will, so the Kingdom of God has broken into their lives. When a community of Christians obey the voice of the Spirit, the Kingdom of God has come in their midst. When most of the people on earth obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, God’s will will be done on earth and his kingdom will have come.
The Holy Spirit can speak to any person in the universe, whenever he chooses, so he does not need to speak through intermediaries. He can speak to any person anywhere at any time. He speaks directly without needing a priests or pastors to translate or explain his words. Once everyone is living and walking in the Holy Spirit, control is unnecessary. People no longer need another people to tell them what to do. If they are filled with the Holy Spirit, they can walk in the Spirit.
Jesus speaks in our hearts through the voice of the Spirit. He does not force us to do his will. He speaks, then leaves us free to decide whether we will obey or not. If we are willing, the Holy Spirit will renew our lives, so that we want to obey him. The Kingdom comes when most people in earth obey The Holy Spirit, because they love Jesus. Obeying the voice of the Spirit brings freedom and joy.
The Holy Spirit has the capability to establish the Kingdom of God. The only obstacle to the Kingdom is human sin, but through the death of Jesus, the Holy Spirit has the power to overcome it. He can convict people of sin, reveal Jesus, inspire faith, renew their lives and teach them to obey Jesus. This is all it takes. The Holy Spirit can do this one person at a time on an enormous scale, if he gets a bit of help from his friends.
Over the last century, Church has rediscovered the power of the Holy Spirit, but our understanding of his role has been limited to his work in the Church. We need a revelation of his role in establishing the Kingdom of God. Establishing the kingdom is a power job, so the Holy Spirit is the person to do it. As more and more people live in obedience to the Holy Spirit, God’s will will be done and his Kingdom will come one earth.
